Mathematical Modelling
- Geometry
Research topics include Lagrange and Finsler spaces, gauge theories, relativity theory and applications in Physics. The research centre communicates with other research centres in the country and abroad. Important conferences in this field were organized in Brașov in the past. A national grant was also finalized in this field.
2. Mathematical Analysis, approximation and optimization
The following directions can be included in this vast research field: function approximation by linear and positive operators and by quantitative methods, fixed point theorems in metric spaces and generalizations, mathematical inequalities in various spaces, applied mathematics in different practical fields. Our centre offers the possibility of specialization by enrolling for a Ph.D. degree. A national grant unfolded in this field as well.
- Dynamic systems, mechanics and analytical functions
One major objective in this field is mathematical modelling using differential equations and equations with partial derivatives. Evolutionary equations and dynamic systems are also important instruments. Practical applications are studied especially in fluid mechanics and microporous media. Another direction is represented by the geometric theory of analytic functions, a traditional research field in our faculty.
- Probabilities and mathematical statistics
This direction focuses on the following problems: stochastic processes, system feasibility, Brownian motion or statistical processing. The centre offers the possibility of enrolling for a Ph.D. program in this field. A number of research grants have been finalized recently in this field.
Algorithms and Software
All research directions which develop theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Science are included in this field. Theoretical directions include numerical analysis, graph theory and combinatorial optimization. Main fields of interest in Computer Science include: algorithm theory and simulation, parallel programming, C#, Net, Oracle and Java applications as well as Web technology, machine learning, data mining, mobile communication technology and fat client architecture. From among the applications in interdisciplinary directions, we hereby mention: code theory, computational geometry, applied statistics and image processing. There is also the possibility of enrolling for a Ph.D. programme in this field.
