Infrastructure
The activity of the centre relies on 3 work platforms, as follows:
1.Smart microgrid platform designed for renewable energy sources integration in distributed grids, with measurement, control and data processing system, consisting in the following test-benches: platform, consisting in the following stands:
• Test-bench for wind energy conversion systems with permanent magnets generator (PMSG) - Includes a 4.5kW PMSG driven by a wind turbine emulator, power electronics converters for the generator connection to the microgrid, (2011)
• Test-bench for wind energy conversion systems with doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) - Includes a 7.5kW DFIG powered by a wind turbine emulator, power electronics converters for the generator connection to the microgrid, (2011)
• Test-bench for photovoltaic systems (PV) - Includes a PV emulator (programmable DC power supply 600V/6A) and a power electronics converter for the interfacing with the microgrid (2011)
• Test-bench for micro-hydro power plants with squirrel-cage induction generator (SCIG) - Includes a hydro-turbine emulator that drives a 3.3kW SCIG, an automation panel for connecting the generator to the microgrid and an electronic power converter (2011)
• Test-bench for conditioning the power flow in a smart microgrid - Includes an active programmable 9kW load, a battery based electrical storage system, a stepped capacitor bank, a synchronous static compensator (2011)
* Each of the above test-benches is equipped with a real time control system (dSPACE DS1103 and Matlab/Simulink), data acquisition system and other specific equipments (2011)
• All-in-one development system for laboratory – Based on the B-Box RCP 3.0 development board from IMPERIX – enhances the real time control of the first five test-benches (2024)
• Four-quadrant power convertor - The electronic converter with a nominal power of 10kVA enables the emulation of a three-phase voltage system and can operate in all the four quadrants of the P/Q characteristic. The Equipment includes a hardware part with a central voltage convertor with PWM modulation and a real time dSPACE DS1103 subsystem. (2016)
• Power Analyser - Yokogawa WT1800-6 (2011)
• Grid-connected Photovoltaic plant, with local electrical energy storage system - Includes 32 photovoltaic panels with an installed power of 8kWp, a 4.6KW PV inverter, a bidirectional Sunny Island de 6kW inverter, a 48V/400Ah Li-Ion battery storage system and a Level 2 (230V/7,4kW) residential charging station for electrical vehicles (2018)
• Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 Aktiv Wireless Weather Station - Includes sensors for solar radiation, wind direction and speed, humidity, etc. (2019)
•Digital oscilloscope TBS2104B – 100 MHz bandwidth, 2 GS/s sample rate, 4-channel digital storage oscilloscope, 5 Mpts record length


2. Integrated system for testing conducted electromagnetic perturbations of electrical and electronic equipments, consisting in the following test-benches:
• Test-bench for electrostatic discharge tests - Electrostatic discharge generator gun (ESD 30N/P30N (1-8 kV); ESD kit RCN1, EAS 30; vertical air discharge plate VCP, series V1139110864 (2012);
• Test-bench for high voltage tests - 6 kV/0.5 J, VSS 500N6, series V1139110872 simulator, 10 kV/ 165 J, tip VSS 500N10.3, series V1139110873 (2012);

• Test-bench for low frequency immunity testing Continuous wave simulator; 6 dB Attenuator; R-100 simulator calibration set; 32 A coupling/decoupling grid; Calibration adaptor for CDN-M5/32 A; RF, 100W injection probe; R-100 calibration set for the injection probe. (2012)
• Test-bench for testing voltage variations /burst, surge, power fail, magnetic fields / Voltage variations simulator; coupling/decoupling grid for burst and surge; capacitive coupling grid; coupling grid for surge; 10 A current transformer; 100 A current transformer; magnetic field antenna; calibration kit; MotorVariac (2012);

3.Automatic cryogenic system with closed helium circuit for measurement of electrical and magnetic properties of materials at high and low temperatures, respectively inert-Pure Lab HE2 Glove Box workstation.
• Automatic criogenic system with closed helium circuit for measurement of electrical and magnetical properties of materials at high and low temperatures - He closed circuit criogenic system; Magnetic field up to 7 T, temperature in 2-700 K; VSM with sensitivity up to 10-7 uem, Susceptometer in alternating magnetic field; Measurement of conduction properties with temperature and magnetic field; thermal transfer properties in 2 – 350 K and measurement domains: 1 μW/K – 1W/K.
