Virtual reality learning on the new forestry operation simulator, purchased through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)

November 2025

The students of the Faculty of Silviculture and Forest Engineering had the opportunity to train and test their practical skills by availing themselves of the forestry operation simulator that integrates cutting-edge virtual reality technology, which was purchased through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The Faculty of Silviculture and Forest Engineering, specifically its Research Hub “Forest Engineering, Forest Management Planning and Land Measurements” is Romania’s only higher-education unit to hold such a simulator that emulates virtual reality, including typical movement of forestry machines.

Simulator 500 is equipped with three Oryx Systems projection screens and 3D viewing glasses.

Its top-class features include:

- various operation and simulation types of software for Komatsu machineries: multi-purpose harvesters and forwarder tractors;

- relevant chair with in-built operating levers (joysticks) for crane simulation;

- operating pedals for machinery simulation;

- operating software for crane and machinery simulation;

- relevant platform, which emulates movement and interaction with the labour instruments.

The total investment amounts to 600.950 RON (VAT included).
